Timeless Portraits: Cherishing the Beauty of Every Generation
This session is a little different than my usual client work, and is a personal project that I’ve wanted to shoot for a while. I’ve always wanted to photograph environmental portraits, which are photos taken in someone’s everyday surroundings, like their home or workplace, to reveal more of their personality and story.
My husband’s great aunt just turned 90, and with her home having so much character, I thought she’d be wonderful to photograph and spend the afternoon with. I listened as she shared stories from the past, we looked through old photos, and shared some treats together while enjoying each other’s company.
I’m really proud of how these photos turned out. I wanted them to have a cinematic, film-like look and used a black Pro-Mist filter on my lens to give the light a soft, glowy feel. I also experimented with color grading in Lightroom to create a cinematic look.
Having meaningful portraits of your loved ones – at any age – is truly a gift. I’m an Edmonton portrait and family photographer who finds beauty in everyday moments and real connections. If this speaks to you, I’d love to hear from you.
